This pilot advanced course builds on Design 1, focusing on more complex onsite sewage system design under the Ontario Building Code (OBC). Participants will learn how to determine design flows for non-standard uses and apply flow balancing methods, including sizing balancing tanks. The course also explores facility characterization, with an emphasis on non-residential and high-strength wastewater applications.
Key design topics include Type A systems, shallow buried trenches, and BMEC combined treatment and dispersal systems, along with considerations for nutrient removal, dosing strategies, and system components such as siphons, ADVs, and grease traps. Collection and conveyance design principles are also addressed to ensure effective system performance.
Finally, participants will gain practical guidance on developing and presenting alternative solutions under the OBC.
This course may qualify for continuing education credits (e.g for PEO or OBOA). Please check with your association to confirm.
Suggested Pre-Requisite: Five-Day Part 8 Licensing Course or equivalent experience, ORWC Introduction to Design Course (or similar/related experience with basic OBC design).
